
The Nile originates from Ethiopia and Ethiopia contributes over 80% of the Nile Water. Ethiopia has inalienable rights to construct the dam to meet the needs of its people.

The purpose of the project
Minnesota-Midwest Support is started by US citizens of Ethiopian origin in order to:
Share information on Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD)
Create awareness among US Citizens of Ethiopian origin and friends of Ethiopia on the current issues surrounding the GERD
Stand in solidarity with Ethiopia in the effort to construct the dam and lift its people out of poverty and darkness
Raise funds to support the construction of the dam
Why GERD?
Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam Construction was started in response to dire need for national development to lift up its people out of poverty and darkness. The Dam construction was started in 2011 in keeping with the UN conventions on equitable use of the Nile water.
Ethiopia a country located in East Africa is a home to over 110 million people.
Its people speak over 82 distinct languages. These people display spectacular diverse culture and the land is rich in ancient history. Some of its historical ancient heritage are registered with UNESCO.
Nile the longest river in the world travels 4,258 miles through 11 Nile basin countries. The Nile Basin Initiative an intergovernmental consortium of 10 countries was created in 1999 to insure cooperation among the member states for win-win gains to common water issues through consultation and negotiation

Egypt uses between 55 and 60 billion cubic meters of the Nile water and 25 billion of cubic meters of soil that originates from the Ethiopian highlands.
